Advanced Technology Recycling (ATR) announced today that they have broken a new Guinness World Record for most consumer electronics recycled in one week at multiple locations. ATR was able to collect 1,180,442 pounds of electronics over a seven day period across six sites. The previous record was for 1,045,491 pounds from a company in Australia, Tech Collect.
ATR’s event, called the “One Million Pound Challenge”, was focused on keeping over one million pounds of electronics out of landfills. ATR was able to partner up with Commercial Accounts, Municipalities and residences to break the Guinness World Record. The event ran from Saturday April 18th at 6:00pm till Saturday April 25th at 6:00pm. The ruling from an official Guinness World Records judge took place Saturday April 25th at ATR’s corporate headquarters in Pontiac, IL.
Ray Magee, Business Development Manager for ATR, explains, “Even though our goal was to break the record, the primary goal is always electronic recycling awareness and education.” Ray Magee continues, “This Guinness record means a great deal to all of our employees. There was a tremendous coordination effort from all our employees at every ATR site.”
Ken Ehresman, COO of ATR, expresses, “ATR was overwhelmed by all of the support from our business partners and communities. Our phones rang constantly all week of people asking how they could help us break the records.”
